People say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But so often we rely on breakfast cereals for a quick and easy meal.
Are breakfast cereals healthy? Or are they really sugar in a box?
If breakfast cereal isn't the solution, how can we make a healthy breakfast quickly?
In this episode I look at healthy alternatives to "sugar in a box".
Essentially eat it as a treat rather than a “healthy breakfast”.
People used to say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This isn’t necessarily true. Many people don’t eat until later on and it works fine for them.
The danger is that you skip breakfast and turn to refined carbs to fill the hole.
You need to find what works for you and your family. And that may be different at different times. (E.g. last summer I loved skipping breakfast. This year I eat breakfast.)
Beware shop bought smoothies with lots of added sugar.
Smoothies aren’t a great weight loss tool. When you whizz things up you’re doing a job that is better done by your body.
Liquids can also trick your body into thinking it hasn’t eaten much.
However, they are delicious.
I find them useful for kids. The upside is that kids can make them themselves. They’re getting some fruit (even if it is whizzed up.) It’s better than a fizzy drink.
It’s about balance rather than “all or nothing thinking”.
It’s all about habits! It’s super easy to find a nutritious and healthy breakfast that you enjoy and can make even if you’re busy.
You might need to take a step back and rethink your “systems” a bit but it’s worth the time investment and the transition.
